What made you pursue a career in the cosmetics/personal care industry?

On my first job out of college I sold surfactants, PEGs, ethanolamines into the PC industry and really enjoyed working with companies I also bought from. I later worked in the industrial sector, but when I got the opportunity to return after Brenntag purchased the company I worked for, I jumped at it. The industry had changed as many of the products I used to sell, are now on many companies’ “no” list. However I quickly learned to love the fast pace and innovation which drives the industry, plus I get to try all my customers’ new products!

What advice would you give your younger self who is just starting out in the industry?
Go to as many meetings and SCC programs as you can fit in to network and learn, you never know which contact, or which training will help you get your next promotion, job or friend.

What is the favorite part of your job?

Meeting with chemists and showing them an ingredient or formula that excites them and seeing it on the market.

What has been your most recent professional accomplishment?

After my stint as CTSCC chair, the board voted to give me the chapter merit award in 2016, I was surprised and honored.

How has membership in the SCC been of value to you?

The best part of membership is meeting new people and getting educated about industry trends at SCC events.

What is a fun fact about yourself, outside of the SCC and your professional life?

The only World Series game I ever attended was the 1989 earthquake game in San Francisco. What a night that was, and returning a week later for the makeup game was a little scary but totally worth it.
