INTRODUCING THE SCC'S NEW CERTIFICATE PROGRAM 

What is the Certificate Program?

Since the 1980s, the Society of Cosmetic Chemists has offered Continuing Education Program (CEP) courses for cosmetics industry professionals seeking to strengthen their knowledge of cosmetic science. Building on that longstanding educational foundation, the SCC Certificate Program offers a more structured learning pathway through curated collections of SCC courses.

The Certificate Program combines on-demand course recordings and quizzes, live instructor Q&A opportunities, and optional hands-on laboratory learning. Participants move through a defined curriculum designed to build deeper knowledge in a specific subject area while maintaining the flexibility of online learning.

SCC launched its inaugural Certificate in Skin Care in 2024. The 2026–2027 cohort will soon be enrolling, with additional certificate subject areas planned for the future.

How does it work?

Program Duration

Fall 2026 - Spring 2027

• Enrollment open now.
• Enrollment deadline: March 1, 2027
• Program completion deadline: June 1, 2027
• Participants who need additional time may request a one-year completion deferral

Program Requirements:

Participants complete six courses total: three required courses and three electives.

The full Certificate in Skin Care program includes approximately 40 hours of recorded, on-demand course content, plus quizzes, live instructor Q&A opportunities, and optional hands-on laboratory learning.

Required Course List:

• Beginning Cosmetic Chemistry
• Fundamentals of Skin Science
• Cosmetic Formulations

For Cosmetic Formulations, participants choose one of two formats:

• Online – includes classroom recordings and online lab-exercise videos
• In-Person – includes classroom recordings and an in-person laboratory experience

Elective Courses – Choose Three

• Introduction to Microbiology for Cosmetics Care Professionals
• Cosmetic Raw Materials for Skin Care
• Advanced Skin Science
• Antimicrobial Protection in Cosmetics: Preserving your Formulation
• Fundamentals of Microbiome for the Cosmetics Industry
• Fundamentals of Sunscreen Development
• Cosmetic Product Development – Skin Care
• Regulatory Fundamentals in the U.S.

Course Format

Courses are delivered primarily on demand, with approximately six hours of recorded instruction per course and quizzes throughout the curriculum to reinforce learning. Participants have 24/7 access to released course content throughout their active enrollment period. Live instructor Q&A opportunities may also be offered during the program.

Program Certificate

After completing the required coursework and assessments, participants complete a final reflection on their experience in the program and receive an SCC Certificate in Skin Care.
