What made you pursue a career in the cosmetics/personal care industry?

During my childhood years, I loved to create my own perfumes and shampoos. My earliest formulas went something like the following:

⅓ mom’s flower bed petals
⅓ various personal care products
⅓ tap water

I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was disrupting the preservative system of the ingredients I was using! Little did I know it, but I had developed a love for “personal care” products early and I’m glad that I get to apply this in my daily life now.

What advice would you give your younger self who is just starting out in the industry? 
Always keep your sense of humor, try not to take your work home with you, and find time to experiment with new materials.

What is the favorite part of your job?

I enjoy making formulas on the bench – researching and selecting my raws, writing out a formula, and then creating it. It is always fun for me to see how everything comes together and what it will feel like in the end.

What has been your most recent professional accomplishment?

I was excited to have two formulas launch at the 2017 Nu Skin Convention.

How has membership in the SCC been of value to you?

Most importantly, I have made some wonderful friends through my SCC membership. Secondly, the opportunity that I had to serve as IMWSCC Chair was pivotal for my development. Prior to serving as Chair, I was terrified of public speaking. However, with time and practice, I have felt a lot more comfortable in front of people. The SCC has definitely helped my professional and personal development through opportunities to network with others, learn from them, and take away my fear of public speaking.

What is a fun fact about yourself, outside of the SCC and your professional life?

Some people may not know that I am passionate about Disney and currently have a bucket list goal of visiting all the Disney Theme Parks in the world before I die. I enjoy traveling with my husband, especially to any warm and beach-friendly destinations!
