What made you pursue a career in the cosmetics/personal care industry?

I have always been fascinated about personal care products that we use daily. My very first job was in the lab working in the electronics industry. I also had a part time job as a sales associate. I always thought it would be great to combine my technical skills with selling. I transitioned from the lab to sales at a major chemical company as one of their first sales trainees. As a sales trainee, I had the opportunity to train in each of the company’s business units. I found the personal care business unit to be most fascinating. This opportunity began my career in the personal care industry. Since then, I have had the opportunity to gain knowledge regarding the raw material used in personal care products and how these materials are used to develop formulations for consumers.

What advice would you give your younger self who is just starting out in the industry?
Don’t be afraid to network and move out of your comfort zone. You never know what opportunities may be in your future just by networking.

What is the favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of the job is collaborating with chemists and formulators from formulation development ideas to seeing finished products on store shelves.

What has been your most recent professional accomplishment?

Bringing together a new team, made up of multiple professionals with diverse experiences and skills sets. Each person is an expert in their segment so when everyone is working together the flow feels effortless. A good team that has strong communication can overcome most obstacles.

How has membership in the SCC been of value to you?

The SCC membership has allowed me to meet and socialize with industry leaders. I have also participated in the local chapter as a newsletter editor and most recently as the treasurer.

What is a fun fact about yourself, outside of the SCC and your professional life?

Last year, I completed my first 5K run.  It was such a wonderful feeling to cross the finish line. 😊
