Formulating with Pigmented Emulsions

(Online Classroom with In-Person Lab)

A collaboration between the Society of Cosmetic Chemists and The University of Toledo.

Course Overview

This exciting hybrid course features a combination of online classroom instruction followed by 1.5 days of in-person, hands-on lab exercises at the University of Toledo in Toledo, OH.

The course begins with a review of the fundamental cosmetic emulsion principles, followed by the practical aspects of emulsion formulation and manufacturing. Additional instruction defines foundation characteristics and identifies relevant pigment types and fillers. A detailed discussion of wetting, dispersion, and suspension is followed by descriptions of pigment/emulsion integration.

The primary challenges encountered in the manufacturing of pigmented emulsions will also be reviewed.

Who Should Attend

The course serves as a great overview of the use of pigmented emulsion technology in the cosmetics industry, including color cosmetics and SPF/UV absorption products. It will be beneficial to those working at a contract manufacturer, or in formulation, regulatory affairs, processing, or claims testing.

Note: class size limited to 20 participants on a first come, first serve basis.
