Botanicals and Naturals for Skin Care

Course Overview

What are natural products? Why do we want to formulate with them? This course provides an overview of the current use of botanical and natural ingredients in the personal care industry. The course will include a brief history of the use of botanicals, relevant plant classifications, extraction methods, chemical compositions and formulation considerations, current regulatory frameworks, and selected hot topics in the market.

About the instructor


Arthur Georgalas

ARTHUR GEORGALAS has conducted and directed product formulation and applied research in cosmetics, toiletries, skin, sun and hair care at Revlon, Shulton, Charles of the Ritz, DowBrands/ LaMaur and at TRI-K Industries, Inc. in Northvale, New Jersey, U.S. as Director of Research and Development Art has recently established GEORGALAS ENDEAVORS LLC to bring this experience and expertise to clients with personal care projects..  He has also contributed articles to various trade journals and the book Sunscreens 2nd ed., Marcel Dekker publishers.  He contributes to active Society of Cosmetic Chemists (SCC), New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists (NYSCC), and International Federation of Society of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC) committees and has presented at many technical and trade conferences.  A graduate of CCNY (City College of New York), he also completed the Masters Program (M.S. degree) in Pharmaceutics, specialty in Cosmetic Science at the Arnold and Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences of LIU (Long Island University).  As an adjunct professor, Art instructs classes in Skincare, Product Development, and Applied Colloid Chemistry at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Art was the 2021 Chair of the SCC's Committee on Scientific Affairs.
