PATRICK OBUKOWHO

We regret to announce the passing of Patrick Obukowho on December 13, 2024. Patrick was born and later died in his native country of Nigeria. A longtime member of the SCC, Patrick gained Emeritus and Fellow status in the Society. He also served as a CEP course instructor, and was a member of the New York Chapter.
 
Born in Delta State Nigeria, Patrick’s tenacity, curiosity, and thirst for knowledge lead to his decision to venture off to America 40+ years ago. He worked tirelessly to obtain his degree in Industrial Chemistry from Chicago State University in 1987 while working full-time, and through hard work, determination, and trust in God, he was able to build the life that his family enjoys today.
 
Known for his innovative ideas, charisma, and work ethic, he established himself as a world-renown chemist with numerous patents and publications. A Technical Fellow member of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists since 1995, Patrick traveled the world giving lectures and inspiring the next generation of chemists in his field. He was a philanthropist, serving as Grand Master of the local chapter of Knights of Columbus. He was a highly decorated, revered chief in his native Urhobo community and worked fervently to ensure the culture and traditions would not be forgotten. Most importantly, Patrick was a family man, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  
 
Patrick was predeceased by his parents, twin brother, and younger brother.  He is survived by his wife & partner of 50 years (Ochuko), four successful children, and four beautiful grandchildren who always put a smile on his face.
