Neal Hutchinson

With great sadness, we share that Neal Hutchinson passed away on April 25, 2026. Neal was an Emeritus member of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists, a gifted cosmetic chemist at that. He was a respected R&D leader who devoted his career to creating safe, elegant, and effective products that touched the lives of countless consumers and professionals. Neal joined the Society of Cosmetic Chemists in 1975, reflecting his long-standing commitment to the advancement of cosmetic science and the professional community that supports it.

Over the span of four decades in the beauty and personal care industry, he held key technical and leadership roles at Vidal Sassoon, Procter & Gamble, Redken, Armor All, and Earth Science before devoting more than twenty years at YG Labs, where he ultimately served as Director of Product Technologies and Regulatory before retiring in 2025. He also shared his expertise as part of the teaching team for the UCLA Extension Cosmetic Science program, helping to educate and inspire generations of cosmetic chemists and beauty professionals.

Colleagues and students alike remember Neal as a patient mentor, a thoughtful teacher, and a calm, reassuring presence who always made time to listen and to explain. His passing marks a profound gap in the YG Labs family and the wider cosmetic science industry, but his legacy lives on in the products he helped create, the professionals he guided, and the many lives he gently touched. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him.
