Julio Gans Russ, known to many simply as Julio, passed away on October 3, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio, at the age of 89. Born on January 7, 1937, in Havana, Cuba, he lived a life marked by intelligence, passion, generosity, and an enduring commitment to excellence. Julio earned an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences from the City University of New York, building the foundation for a remarkable career that would span approximately 50 years of R&D within the cosmetics industry. His professional life reflected both technical mastery and creative vision. Over the course of his career, he managed and oversaw the development of hundreds of cosmetics-related products and shades, helping shape the appearance and success of some of the industry’s most recognizable brands including Revlon & Maybelline.

Julio was an Emeritus Member of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists, joining in 1966, and served as Chair of the Southeast Chapter in 1978.
