In this presentation, we will delve into the relationship between UV irradiation and the skin microbiome, offering novel insights into their connection. Through a series of exploratory clinical investigations, we examined the effects of sunscreen application on bacterial diversity, with a particular focus on the role of Lactobacillus crispatus in UV-irradiated skin microbiomes. Our in vitro experiments explored the protective properties of specific UV filters on beneficial skin bacteria and their impact on the proliferation of opportunistic pathogens like Cutibacterium acnes. These findings demonstrated the potential implications of UV protection by UV filters on skin defense mechanisms. Additionally, we will discuss the development of skin-strengthening claims and ongoing efforts to certify select UV filters and sunscreen formulations as "microbiome-friendly," emphasizing our commitment to advancing skin health.

We are seeking sponsors, members and guests who would like to join us for our 2024 Suppliers’ Social event at Eventide Brewing Company, in Atlanta, GA. We will be sharing dinner, and have an opportunity to tour this craft brewery founded by a group of friends who met at Georgia Southern University and bonded on a shared love of good beer. Nathan, Haley, and Geoffrey all met at Georgia Southern, and later on began to experiment with homemade pickles, mustard, cheese, and beer. Nathan and Geoffrey’s first batch of beer was brewed on a “Mr. Beer” kit. Shortly after realizing they needed to upgrade, Nathan fabricated a three kettle brew system, which is still used to create our test brews today. Mathew joined the team a few years later after being introduced to the group through one of Haley’s close friends. The combination of everyone’s background and talents has allowed us to build this company from the ground up, become closer friends, and craft award winning beer. We are very happy to call Atlanta home and to provide this great city with offerings that will really show what “Craft” can be. To us, great doesn’t have to be complicated.
