Sales Account Manager, Surfactants, Personal Care

 

Seeking an ambitious entrepreneurial Sales Account Manager with experience selling specialty chemicals, surfactants, additives, or natural vegetable oils to large regional or national consumer packaged goods (CPG) accounts within the Household Industrial & Institutional (HI&I), Personal Care, and Cosmetics manufacturing industries. This high visibility “hunter” sales role will have end-to-end responsibility for building strong commercial relationships with corporate technical centers, R&D formulators, purchasing, and brand managers. You will work out of your home office, with preferred locations along the East Coast or Midwest US, with up to 25% overnight travel during the week.

 

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Business preferred.
  • 5-8 years of Sales or Account Management experience in HI&I, Personal Care, and Cosmetics markets.
  • CPG ingredient sales into products such as shampoos, hair conditioners, hand soaps, make-up, moisturizers, and other industrial cleaning agents is preferred.
  • Expertise selling value-added specialty chemicals, complex ingredients, or additives.
  • Strong entrepreneurial drive, a sales “hunter” mindset, and passion to succeed.
  • Well-developed consultative problem-solving selling skills and analytical thinking.
  • Comfortable communicating across multiple departments including research scientists, product formulators, purchasing, marketing, and executive sponsors.
  • Experience developing target account strategies, sales plans, new business proposals, and negotiating pricing, packaging, and delivery terms.
  • Sound business acumen with understanding of pricing, logistics, and profit/loss statements.
  • High proficiency with MS Excel; ideally with some familiarity of pivot tables.
  • Experience with Salesforce CRM and SAP are a plus.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Mature time and territory management skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% overnight.
