Florence Wall Women in Cosmetic Chemistry Award

Sponsored by Rodan + Fields Concept to Commerce Innovation

In honor of the first woman to be awarded with the Society's highest honor (Maison G. deNavarre Medal Award), the Florence Wall award is presented annually at the Annual Meeting.

A special merit certificate plaque is presented to the awardee.

About Florence Wall

Florence Wall fought for recognition of cosmetic science as a true scientist and was involved in updates to the Food, Drug and Cosmetic legislation. She attended hearings and worked tirelessly to fight scientific inaccuracies and ensure accurate representation of the cosmetic industry.  Ms. Wall was a recognized authority in the cosmetic science industry and authored a text on the science of hair dye in which she coined the industry term “canitics” – the art and science of hair dyeing.  Florence continued to write throughout her career, publishing 5 books and more than 300 articles, and was the first female recipient of the SCC’s Maison G. deNavarre Medal Award in 1956.

General Description of The Award 

The Florence Wall Women in Cosmetic Chemistry Award is designed to recognize a woman for significant accomplishments to the cosmetic industry through her technical contributions, leadership skills, and business excellence.   

The Florence Wall Women in Cosmetic Chemistry Award honors a woman who:

  • inspires others through her work and demonstrates unwavering passion for the cosmetic science industry.
  • is a bold, well-known leader with a proven record of growth, success and influence in her profession or community.
  • understands the importance of innovative ideas, education, mentoring and service to others. 

Criteria For Consideration  

The following criteria shall be considered in the selection and evaluation of nominees:

  • Active membership status in SCC (at least 5 years)
  • Contributions to the field of cosmetic science, including patents, publications, and technical presentations
  • Examples of inspiration and leadership in the industry
