Celebrating Excellence: Announcing the 2026 MASCC Scholarship Winners!

We are thrilled to shine a spotlight on the future of beauty and personal care! The Mid Atlantic Society of Cosmetic Chemists (MASCC) is proud to announce the recipients of our 2026 scholarships.

This year, we’ve selected two exceptional students who not only excel in the classroom but also demonstrate a deep passion for the science behind the products we use every day. Each recipient has been awarded $1,000 to support their journey in becoming the next generation of industry leaders.

Meet Mya Ross

University: North Carolina A&T State University

Focus: Chemistry & Product Formulation

Mya is a dedicated chemistry student with a clear vision for the future of the industry. She believes that beauty should never come at the cost of safety or the environment. Her work is centered on:

  • Sustainability: Developing products that are environmentally responsible.

  • Scientific Integrity: Focusing on transparent, science-backed solutions rather than "temporary fixes."

  • Impactful Chemistry: Using her laboratory experience to create personal care products that are both honest and effective.

Meet Anaija Salaam-Hardrick

University: University of Cincinnati

Focus: Graduate Cosmetic Science

Anaija brings a strong background in biology to her graduate studies, where she has already gained impressive hands-on experience in formulation chemistry. Her journey is fueled by:

  • Technical Versatility: Having already worked on complex formulations like emulsions, conditioners, and sunscreens.

  • Representation: A deep-seated commitment to addressing gaps in accessibility and representation within the cosmetic industry.

  • Lifelong Curiosity: A passion for uncovering the "why" behind the science of beauty.

Cosmetic Science Advanced Degrees

  1. University of Cincinnati (US) - On-line degree program focusing on design, evaluation, and control of cosmetic products. Nationally acclaimed Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Science with emphasis in Cosmetic Science on-line. Lectures are offered asynchronously over the internet to accommodate the work and travel schedules of those who wish to take courses without distracting from current employment. Requires some visits to Cincinnati.
  2. Fairleigh Dickenson (US) — M.A. in Science (Cosmetic Science Concentration). Fairleigh Dickinson University’s School of Natural Sciences offers a Master of Arts in Science with a concentration in Cosmetic Science. This concentration, the first of its kind in New Jersey,was implemented in 1982 with the support and approval of the Society of CosmeticChemists. Today, FDU’s Cosmetic Science program continues to fulfill the needs of thoseresponsible for creating commercial products in the cosmetics, toiletries, and fragranceindustries. It enables practitioners to learn the latest advances in their field and helps students to develop advanced skills that can lead to senior assignments in the cosmetics industry.
  3. Fashion Institute and Technology - Explore marketing and product development in the cosmetics and fragrance industries. Get a brief overview of the history of this exciting industry and learn the language used by marketers, developers, chemists and perfumers. Study the basics of working in a cosmetics and fragrance laboratory and investigate how beauty products are made. Students have a hands-on experience creating beauty products across a variety of categories. Please note that students will be exposed to a wide variety of odors and should not be allergic to smells.
