PAUL THAU
Longtime SCC member and former President Paul Thau passed away on February 15, 2024 at the age of 91. Paul served in key R&D roles during the formative years of the cosmetics industry, including positions at Revlon and L’Oréal, and made significant contributions to the development of water-in-oil emulsion technologies.
Paul was an SCC member for over 60 years, gaining Emeritus and Fellow membership status. He served as the Chair of the SCC's New York Chapter in 1971, and as SCC National President in 1988. Paul won the Maison G. deNavarre award in 2005, the Society's highest honor.
Even into his late ‘80’s, Paul was still enthusiastic about cosmetic science education, regularly attending the latest SCC Webinars, and continuing to write for the New York Chapter’s Cosmetiscope publication. He even appeared in the SCC’s 75th anniversary video (discussing alginates), which is posted to the SCC website.
Paul Thau will be greatly missed by his SCC colleagues and the cosmetics industry as a whole.
