INTRODUCING SCC WEBINARS

The Society is excited to announce our latest educational resource that will enable SCC members to take their membership further. Introducing SCC Webinars! Scheduled approximately once per month, these webinars will typically be FREE for members, providing critical updates and information on topics important to professional development.

Perfect for busy professionals and distance learners, these Webinars will air for 1 hour (allowing for 10-15 minutes of Q&A) and will be instructed by the industry’s leading professional experts.

Our Webinars are affordable (free for members), convenient (learn and grow professionally, right in the comfort of your own home or office) and great for professionals looking to pick up new skills in a short amount of time. The best part is, some Webinars may even turn into full day CEP courses – allowing you the opportunity to ‘try out’ a course before fully committing to it. When new Webinars are available, members will receive an email with instructions on how to register.

UPCOMING WEBINARS

There are no webinars currently scheduled. Please check back later this month as the Fall courses are currently being finalized.

PAST WEBINARS

USING DECISION TREE REASONING TO ESTABLISH THE SAFETY OF AROMA CHEMICALS
MAY 03, 2018 (STARTING AT 3:00 PM EASTERN TIME)
FREE & OFFERED EXCLUSIVELY TO SCC MEMBERS

Instructed by Steve Herman – Fragrance safety is a critical priority for the personal care industry, and the cutting edge scientific approach used by the fragrance industry has application for any exploration of chemical safety.

Safety testing at RIFM (Research Institute for Fragrance Materials) has continuously evolved in response to advances in basic applied science. Starting in 2000 a series of guidance documents established the science behind different aspects of RIFM’s safety assessment program. In 2015 a new criteria document provided a unified decision tree structure for all RIFM evaluations, incorporating read-across techniques, in silico tools, the addition of TCC (Threshold of Toxicological Concern) and clearly defined endpoints for different concerns (skin, environmental, respiratory). This webinar will review the work leading up to the new criteria and will explain in detail the current decision tree process.

About the instructor

STEVE HERMAN is President of Diffusion LLC, a consulting firm specializing in regulatory issues, intellectual property, and technology development. He served as an Adjunct Professor in the FDU Cosmetic Science Program from1993-2016, teaching the Cosmetic Formulation Lab and Perfumery, and he continues to teach a General Chemistry Lab. Steve was a columnist for GCI Magazine for 17 years and has written a book, Fragrance Applications: A Survival Guide. His SCC activities include service as Chairman of the NY Chapter in 1992 and 2013, election to Fellow status in 2002, and instructor in the Continuing Education Program.

PRINCIPLES OF EMULSION AESTHETIC DESIGN
MAY 23, 2018 (STARTING AT 3:00 PM EASTERN TIME)
FREE & OFFERED EXCLUSIVELY TO SCC MEMBERS

Instructed by Mark Chandler – Getting the aesthetics of a skin care emulsion correct can be as important to the success of a product as clinical performance. Adding or swapping a single ingredient often is not the answer to tailoring a formulation to a specific market and application. The formulator must lay out a plan, knowing how to change the variable most important to adapting the aesthetics for a particular audience.
