On April 11th, 2018, the SCC’s Midwest Chapter will host TEAMWORKS 2018, the premier exhibition for formulators among the specialty chemical allied trades. The event will take place at the Donald E. The day before the event, on April 10th, 2018, the SCC National Office will be holding two continuing education (CEP) courses at the Embassy Suites by Hilton hotel, across the street from the Donald E. This course has been designed to be a ‘Back to Basics’ course in aerosol technology. Attendees will learn how an aerosol system works, basic componentry utilized, State and Federal regulations that directly affect aerosol products; and general formulation considerations to be addressed when developing, formulating, and testing prototype aerosols for use in the Personal Care market. This course will be of interest to those professionals who wish to develop an understanding of aerosol technology as well as those who are actively involved in the development, filling, and testing of Personal Care aerosol products.
About The Instructor:
COLLEEN M. ROCAFORT M.Sc. is currently a Global Technical Key Account Manager for BASF Corporation. She is responsible for the global development of new business opportunities by leading innovation and development efforts with her customers. She has been active in the cosmetics industry since 1977 and has worked on the Raw Material Supplier side of the business, as well as for a Contract Manufacturer, and an International Consumer Goods Company for companies such as Fluid Packaging Company, Playtex Beauty Care, Inc., International Specialty Products, and Ciba Specialty Chemicals Corporation which is now part of BASF Corporation.

This course will focus on the changes of the regulations of cosmetics in Canada, the European Union, Japan, and China. Amongst the topics under Europe will be an overview of the recent changes to the EU Regulations and opinions which may lead to more changes, and a review of REACH and its impact on both raw material suppliers and cosmetic manufacturers as of May 30, 2018. The topics covered about Japan include the definitions of cosmetics and quasi-drugs and how they are regulated, and updates of these regulations. China regulations will be about proposed changes, additional approved ingredients, and animal testing. Canada will cover changes to their Hot List, and proposed changes to how sunscreens pilot program is doing and Sel-Care Framework.
About The Instructors:
DAVID C. STEINBERG founded Steinberg & Associates, Inc. in 1995 as a consulting company that specializes in cosmetic regulations, labeling, preservation and sunscreens. He has over 45 years experience in the cosmetic industry. He founded the Masters Degree program in Cosmetic Sciences at Fairleigh Dickinson University and taught there from 1982 to 2000. He is a member of the American Chemical Society, Society of Cosmetic Scientists, Institute of Food Technologists, Regulatory Affairs Professional Society- where he is the only member elevated to Fellow status who deals with the regulations of Cosmetics and topical drugs; and is a Fellow member of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists. In 1991 he was the President of the US Society of Cosmetic Chemists. From 1992-5 he served on the Presidium of the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists. He has written 5 books including Preservatives for Cosmetics (The third edition is now available, The Guide to European Cosmetic Regulations, and has authored many papers and chapters in books.
MOVIN “MO” LOVELACE is a Regulatory Affairs Professional with nearly 20 years extensive industry experience. Mo is expert at formulation and packaging compliance, domestic and foreign product registration documentation, and FDA/GMP compliance. Her experience includes regulatory oversight for a wide variety of product lines. Her two degrees, Bachelor of Technology (Manufacturing) and Bachelor of Science (Food), give her a solid knowledge base.
