The concerns over the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, both nationally and locally, are at the forefront today. Given the current climate of uncertainty, we are providing you with the following information and guidance with regard to the continually evolving situation.
SCC asks that all participants at National and Chapter meetings or events exercise discretion in attending as it is also cold and flu season. If you are feeling under the weather, we encourage you to stay away from others and, if appropriate, seek medical attention. In all situations, follow best practices to limit the transmission of germs such as: coughing and sneezing into a tissue or your elbow, using hand sanitizer, thorough and frequent washing of hands, and regularly disinfecting/cleaning surfaces (phones/laptops/desks, etc.). More information on appropriate steps to mitigate the proliferation of illnesses is available on the CDC website.
Chapter Sponsored Events:
Teamworks 2020 (April 8, 2020) held by the Mid-West Chapter at the Stevens Convention Center and the NY Suppliers’ Days (May 5-6, 2020) held by New York Chapter at the Javits Center are both currently still being held as of this email. If there are any changes in these events, registrants and exhibitors will receive notice directly from the show organizers.
At this time, we are not making a recommendation to Chapters with respect to individual meetings or events. We are confident that our Chapter leadership will use appropriate discretion in determining whether or not to hold local meetings. We encourage our members to attend local meetings or events if they are comfortable doing so. This is a personal decision for each member. Refund policies for these meetings are determined by the Chapter.
Continuing Education Courses
The SCC’s continuing education courses held throughout the country, many in conjunction with Chapter events, will be monitored and continuously reviewed throughout the coming months. Any registration fees for HQ-sponsored courses which are impacted by travel restrictions in effect (either by employer or the government) shall be eligible for a full refund until such time that said restriction is lifted.
The Annual Meeting
The SCC is continuing to monitor developments related to the coronavirus disease and potential impact on global and domestic travel to the 74th Annual Scientific Meeting & Showcase in NYC this December. At present, the headquarters office, hotel, and our other service providers all continue operating normally. We plan to open registration over the summer (estimated July 1, 2020) and any changes to operating status will be communicated immediately to all registered meeting attendees.
For the most up-to-date information regarding the virus, please refer to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.
Thank you for your understanding as we navigate this situation.
