Ella Hudson, MSc

Ella Hudson is a PhD student in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering and the School of Biosciences at The University of Sheffield. Her joint-discipline PhD, which is funded by the UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, focuses on combining biological and mechanical datasets to further understanding of hair damage at the molecular level, for the design peptide-based restorative haircare treatments. Her research is also supported by Croda International plc, an ingredients specialist.

Prior to her PhD, Ella completed a BSc and an MSc, both in Biotechnology. During these years of study, she developed an interested in proteomics, protein engineering, and product development. Alongside her PhD, she supports undergraduate student learning and is and advocate for inclusion and diversity in STEM subjects.

Outside of Academia, Ella is president of the university’s British Sign Language Society and teaches beginner classes. She also enjoys skiing, tap dance and travelling.
