Nick Morante is currently an independent consultant to the cosmetics industry. He travels around the world teaching and consulting for numerous companies and organizations within the cosmetics industry. He has over 35 years of experience in the formulation of color cosmetics and other makeup and emulsion-type products. He spent a good part of those years at The Estée Lauder Companies where he was in charge of R & D and Product Development in the corporate makeup area and for many of the company’s newly acquired brands. He was also in charge of the Color Science Laboratory where he was responsible for color measurement and colorimetric/spectrophotometric analysis of finished products, raw materials and human skin as it relates to the colorants used in various types of cosmetic products. He was also responsible for the development of test protocol and methodologies, which were used to generate several new makeup shade lineups for some of the many Estée Lauder Brands.
Nick Morante holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Life Sciences from the New York Institute of Technology and has a Master of Science Degree in Organic Chemistry from Trinity Southern University. He has taken numerous continuing education courses in the cosmetic sciences at The Center for Professional Advancement. Nick is also a long time member and has been very active in the Society of Cosmetic Chemists where he has held many positions both on the local Chapter and National Executive Board levels. Most recently he served two terms as Secretary of the U.S. Society. He is also an instructor for the Society’s (CEP) Continuing Education Program in the area of color and makeup formulation. He holds a patent for an on the counter lipstick formulation system using electronic color measurement technology with additional patent applications pending. He has given numerous presentations in the area of color cosmetics formulation and color instrumentation to the SCC, CTFA, HBA/PCITX as well as other major scientific organizations, some of which specialize in color technology. He has also contributed many technical articles and authored chapters on these subjects for various notable scientific & industry publications. He is a contributing editor to www.SpecialChem.com, a scientific webside based in Paris, France. He has appeared as an expert witness in numerous patent cases involving cosmetic products, ingredients, and processes.
Makeup and Color Cosmetics are a very integral part of the cosmetics business and are designed to enhance the beauty and appearance of an individual. If one looks good, they will even feel better about themselves. That’s what we in the color cosmetics and beauty business tend to strive for through art, science, and creativity. In previous presentations, Nick Morante has taught all the essential aspects of formulating makeup and basic color cosmetic products to many audiences – and explained various troubleshooting techniques for these products when problems do arise. This is an area in which he has excelled and has many years of hands on experience, both at the formulation lab bench and in the manufacturing environment.
Nick Morante has now taken this art and creativity with him into the consulting world, training and teaching the basics of cosmetic formulation, product development and batch scale-up, as well as the development of new and novel color and personal care cosmetic products for some of the major companies within this industry, and around the world.
