2008 ANNUAL MEETING & TECHNOLOGY SHOWCASE
The 2008 SCC Annual Meeting and Technology Showcase will
be held on December 11th and 12th at the New York Hilton.
Registration information
will be mailed to members in late September and will also
be available on the SCC Website www.scconline.org.
Call for Participation in the Technology Showcase is being
made at this time. See the notice on page 3. The Showcase
will run on both days in
conjunction with the Annual Meeting.

The
Society of Cosmetic Chemists held its Annual Scientific Seminar
on June 5th and 6th at Disney’s Grand Floridian
Resort & Spa.... >>MORE
- AWARDS -
The Society of Cosmetic Chemists Award sponsored by McIntyre
Group, Ltd. was presented to Mary Matsui, Ph.D., and Daniel
Maes,
Ph.D. for their paper entitled "Ultraviolet Radiation
(UVR)-Induced Immune Suppression: An Incentive for Sun Protection
Strategies Beyond SPF". This award recognizes the Best
Paper presented at the 2007 Annual Scientific Meeting.
Student Posters
The Student Poster Showcase is held annually to promote student
research in the Cosmetic Industry.... >>MORE
Suppliers' Cocktail Party
The Suppliers' Cocktail Party, which enables both sides
of the supplier/buyer partnership to interact, has become
a social highlight of
the Annual Scientific Seminar and is always a hugesuccess.... >>MORE
Area I to Host 2010 Seminar
Starting with the 2010 Annual Scientific Seminar, each area
within the SCC will be selected to be the host of the Seminar.
All Chapters in the Area will
have a liason on the the organizing committee. The committee
will be responsible for selecting the venue, determining
the topics and promoting the
seminar to their chapters.
Area I (Connecticut, Long Island, New England, New York,
and Quebec) will be the first Area to be host. At a meeting
in June, presentations were made by
each Chapter and the venue selected for the 2010 Seminar
will be Long Island. Look for details in future newsletters
and or the SCC website.

2008 TECHNOLOGY SHOWCASE
The 2008 Technology
Showcase will be held on December 11th and 12th at the New
York Hilton. The event will start at 10 a.m. each morning
(Note: this is a new start time) and conclude at 4:30 p.m.
each day. If you or your company is interested in presenting
a poster, please review the Call for Participation (see below).
As you are aware, participation in this event has been increasing
each year. Please submit your abstract as soon as possible
as we can only accept 100 posters. >>MORE
2009 ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC
SEMINAR
The 2009 SCC Annual Scientific Seminar will
be held at the Chicago Hilton on June 4th and 5th. If you
are interested in making a podium presentation, please review
the Call for Papers (see below). The deadline for submission

Membership News
General Membership
As of May 31, 2008,
the Society of Cosmetic Chemists had a total membership and
affiliation of 4183 (3,247 General Members, 584 National
Affiliates, 261 Emeritus Members, 3 Honorary Members, 38
Retired Members, 40 Student Members and 10 Junior Members).
Membership is up 1% over 2007.
New Members
During
the period of January 1st through May 31st, there were 196
newly elected members and affiliates to the Society of Cosmetic
Chemists. Welcome to all new members!!! (see page 10).
Emeritus
Members
The Board of Directors voted to elevate
the status of the following General Members to "Emeritus" at
their June Board meeting: M. Catherine L. Chung (MW), Joseph
DiSomma (CA), Burt Like (NY), Donald Macron (NY), Mohammed
Mohuidden (CA), Sergio Nacht, Ph.D. (CA), Sarah Shuttleworth
(NY) and Laurence Smith (NY). The Society recognizes Emeritus
Members as those who have been dues paying members for at
least 25 consecutive years and who are at least 65 years
of age. If you feel you are qualified to have your status
changed to an Emeritus Member, please forward a letter to
the National Office.
Address Changes
Throughout
the year many of our members change jobs or relocate and
forget to notify the National Office. Without notification,
these members may not receive important mailings and eventually
are made inactive. If you know of someone who has moved,
please ask them if they have contacted the National Office
regarding their address change.
Dues Renewal
Renewal
notices for 2009 membership will be sent August 1st. Second
Notices will be sent October 1st and Final Notices will be
sent November 1st. Members who do not renew by December 31st
will be made inactive.
Retention Contest
The
Board of Directors is please to announce that there will
once again be a Retention Contest among the Chapters to see
which Chapter is able to retain the most members during the
dues renewal period for 2009. The chapter with the highest
percentage of retention based on their membership total as
of August 1st will be named the winner.
Employment
Listing
As a benefit to our members who may be unemployed,
the National Office prepares and mails upon request a monthly
employment listing. If you are aware of a job opening, please
forward the details to the National Office. This information
will be included in the following month's listing. This is
a great opportunity for members who are searching for a job
and a good source for companies seeking the right person
to fill a position. The National Office also maintains a
Resume Bank for its members. If you are seeking a position
send your resume to the National Office.
Voluntary
Contributions
Subsequent to our Winter Newsletter,
the Society received a Century Club contribution from Paul
Chapin. All funds received support the educational programs
of the Society. The Society truly appreciates the generosity
of all those members who have made voluntary contributions.
CAREER
BROCHURE
The SCC's publication Career Opportunities
in Cosmetic Science is available for distribution. A limited
number of brochures are available for Chapters who are interested
in distributing some copies to their local schools and universities.

MONOGRAPHS
The
SCC currently has 9 monographs available for purchase. They
are "Skin, Hair and Nail Structure, Function and Associated
Diseases", "Permanent Hair Dyes", "Silicone
Chemistry", "Surfactants", "Antiperspirants & Deodorants"; "In
Vivo Testing Methods", "Nail Lacquer Technology", "Lipstick
Technology" and “Colorants Used in the Cosmetics
Industry”. Please find an order form on the back page
