NAIL LACQUER TECHNOLOGY
Nail lacquers and relate products represent a significant dollar
value to the cosmetics industry. In spite of the relative ubiquity
of nail products, the formulation of nail lacquers traditionally
has been a highly specialized discipline within cosmetic science.
Lacquer technology has its roots in the paint and ink industries,
and this relationship remains strong today. Many nail lacquer
formulators have had training in industrial coatings development.
The raw materials utilized in the formulation of nail lacquers
generally are classified as hazardous, mainly due to their flammability.
Because of these hazards, the manufacture of nail lacquer historically
has been out sourced to specialty subcontractors. Given these
considerations, it should not seem surprising that few cosmetic
chemists have familiarity with the chemistry and manufacture
of nail lacquers. It is the purpose of this monograph to present
he reader with a thorough discussion of the formulation, testing,
and manufacture of nail lacquers. |
