IN VIVO TESTING METHODS FOR ASSESSING
THE EFFECTS OF CLEANSING SYSTEMS ON THE SKIN
In the last 15 years, bioengineering and sensory methods have
been developed to assess non-visible surfactant effects on the
skin. These approaches give more insight on the skin's responses
than is obtained from clinical signs of irritation alone. These
methods may be used to develop a more complete mechanistic understanding
of skin/surfactant interactions, to support claims and guide
formulation. This monograph is intended to help the investigator
select an appropriate methodology to address various experimental
questions, and will focus on the methods used for formulation
guidance and claims substantiation. |
