Congratulations to the Award Winners announced at the December Annual Meeting.
The 2013 Maison G. de Navarre Medal Award, the Society’s highest honor, was presented to Philip Wertz. He was recognized for his significant contributions made to the understanding of skin actives on skin physiology. He is a distinguished research scientist in particular studying the role of peptides, amino acids and proteins in skin care and the anti-aging process.
The Society was pleased to present the Shaw Mudge Award sponsored by BASF Corporation to Christopher C. Heisig, Ph.D. and Peter Karanja for their paper entitled “The Impact of Formulation on Microbial Efficacy of Active Ingredients in Hand Hygiene Products”. This award recognizes the Best Paper presented at the 2013 Annual Scientific Seminar.
The Allan B. Black Award sponsored by Presperse Corporation was presented to Joseph Chris Dederen, Ph.D., Cornelis Verboom and Peter Landa for their paper entitled “Sensory Mapping Methodology Detects the Substantial Perceptible Effect of Emulsifiers in Emulsions”. This award recognizes the Best Paper on Makeup Technology either presented at the previous Annual Scientific Meeting or Seminar or published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science. This paper was presented at the 2012 Annual Scientific Meeting.
The Hans A. Schaeffer Award sponsored by Lonza Personal Care was presented to Amy Vanden Heuvel, Kathleen Englebrecht, Divesh Bhatt, Ph.D. and David W. Koenig, Ph.D. for their paper entitled “Use of Neutral Polysaccarides to Control Bacterial Biofilms on the Skin”. This award recognizes the most innovative paper presented before the membership at either the previous Annual Meeting or the May Seminar. This presentation was made at the 2013 Annual Scientific Seminar.
The Joseph P. Ciaudelli Award sponsored by Croda, Inc. was presented to Paul Carpenter, Dr. Fraser Bell and Dr. Stephen Bucknell for their paper entitled ” Advantages of a High-Throughput Measure of Hair Fibre Torsional Properties”. This award recognizes the Best Article published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science in 2012 on the subject of Hair Care Technology.
The Des Goddard Award sponsored by Lonza Personal Care was presented to Andrea Keenan, Terri Powell, John Reffner, Ph.D. and David Sutton for their paper entitled “Personal Care Polymers for Thermal Protection”. This award recognizes the Most Innovative Paper on the topic of Polymer Science related to Cosmetics or Personal Care presented at the previous Annual Scientific Meeting or Seminar. This paper was presented at the 2013 Annual Scientific Seminar.
The final award presentation was for the Frontiers of Science Lecture. This award is sponsored by Cosmetics & Toiletries magazine and was presented to Dr. Joseph Schwarcz from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.
As mentioned earlier The Society of Cosmetic Chemists’ Merit Award was presented to Stephen Greenberg at the Friday Luncheon. He has been involved in many activities of the Society including being a member of the Committee on Scientific Affairs and serving as the 34th President of the Society He has been a member for over 43 years.
